The Avengers helmer Joss Whedon is trying the other end of the spectrum with micro-budget indie relationship dramaIn Your Eyes, which premiered at Tribeca and is being offered exclusively to viewers via online platform Vimeo. Brin Hill directs the Whedon-penned and -produced pic about an ex-con (Michael Stahl-David) and an East Coast doctor’s wife (Zoe Kazan) who suddenly start sharing an inexplicable metaphysical link. Viewers can watch the trailer which debuted today below and, thanks to the brave new world of digital distribution, can then watch the entire film for $5 via Vimeo on Demand:
EXCLUSIVE:Ruby Sparks actress and screenwriter Zoe Kazan has signed with United Talent Agency. Kazan garnered an Independent Spirit Award nomination this year for Best Screenplay for Ruby Sparks. She co-starred with Paul Dano in the film. The actress and granddaughter of Elia Kazan has also appeared in 2009′s It’s Complicated with Alec Baldwin and Meryl Streep and 2008′s Revolutionary Road with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Kazan is set to appear next opposite Daniel Radcliffe in The F Word and opposite Jake Johnson in The Pretty One. Kazan also has starred in the plays The Seagull and Angels In America. Previously with Gersh, Kazan continues to be repped by manager Jennifer Konawal and attorney Marcy Morris.
Little Miss Sunshine co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris have delivered an unusual rom-com written by Zoe Kazan who also stars as the title character in Ruby Sparks. A character in novels by struggling writer Calvin, played by Paul Dano, suddenly materializes in the flesh. Complications ensue. Cast includes Antonio Banderas, Annette Bening, Steve Coogan, Elliott Gould, Chris Messina and Deborah Ann Woll. The Fox Searchlight release opens July 25.
EXCLUSIVE: A June 1 start date has been set in Los Angeles for The Pretty One, with Zoe Kazan and Jake Johnson starring in a script that made the 2011 Black List and was a finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship and Zoetrope screenplay contest. Jenee LaMarque wrote the script and makes her directorial debut. Pic is an offbeat comedy about an awkward but loveable young woman who is mistaken for her dead “perfect” identical twin, and seizes the chance to masquerade as her sister. But when she falls in love with her twin’s eccentric next door neighbor, she finds herself wanting to live her own imperfect life, and have the truth come out. The film’s being financed by private equity.
Kazan’s starring in the Neil LaBute-scripted Some Girls and the Joss Whedon-scripted In Your Eyes, and she scripted He Loves Me, which Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris are directing. Kazan stars with Paul Dano. Johnson is one of the stars of the Fox hit series The New Girl, opposite Zooey Deschanel and was also just seen in 21 Jump Street and most recently completed Safety Not Guaranteed, which FilmDistrict bought after its Sundance premiere in January.

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Stahl-David and Zoe Kazan have signed on to star in the sci-fi/romance indie In Your Eyes, which Brin Hill will direct from a script by Joss Whedon. Whedon’s Bellwether partner Kai Cole producing along with Night & Day Pictures’ Michael Roiff and David Rothernberg. The film is a described as a metaphysical love story about two seemingly polar opposites who are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined.
Stahl-David stars as Dylan, a boyish-looking man who served time in jail for robbery when he refused to rat on his accomplices. Now, he is living in a trailer in New Mexico. Kazan stars as Rebecca, an attractive but skinny and slightly awkward woman, who is married to an older doctor and living in Connecticut. The two have a powerful connection, and they can hear and see each other, even though they have never met. The film will start production soon in Los Angeles and New Hampshire. Stahl-David made his feature film debut as the lead in JJ Abrams’ Cloverfield for Paramount, and last starred in ABC’s My Generation. He is repped by Management 360 and ICM. Kazan, who scripted the Jonathan Dayton-Valerie Faris-directed He Loves Me, is repped by Parseghian/Planco and Gersh.
